What is LadyCat Fashion?
LadyCat Fashion is a design house that was established in 2015. LadyCat was founded by indie designer, Alexandra Nyman, in New York City, New York. At the time, my primary focus was to create historical costumes for film and theatre. This eventually evolved into launched a ready-to-wear collection. This also led me to focus more heavily on my blog in order to give the brand a more direct voice.
Some of my earliest pieces were created for Niki and Gabi DeMartino. This evolved into creating 18th-century costumes for a number of films I was involved with. Some of LadyCat’s filmography includes: Emilia, starring Alessandra DeMartino (2015), Goodnight Sally (2016), Once a Jedi (2016), 100 Years of Nontraditional Wedding Dresses (2016), The Jackal and the Hound (2017), Legends, starring Silento (2018), and many more.
In 2017 LadyCat Fashion dove into cosplay commissions. Through this ongoing venture we have received major recognition from Broadway Con, Puffs the Musical creator Matt Cox, and The New York Times. Our most popular piece is the Master of the House cosplay look which took Broadway Con by storm. The costumes finished in the top 3 for Broadway Con’s costume contest. LadyCat continues to accept commissions from a wide variety of cosplay clients. I also have had the honor of dressing a number of clients for the red and pink carpets. My busiest season is BeautyCon as I work with many vloggers in the beauty community.
In February 2019, LadyCat Fashion launched its first ready-wear collection entitled “Therapy”. The inspiration for “Therapy” came from my brother and his mental health journey. He has faced so much since being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and I am in awe of his strength every day. He is my driving force and main inspiration in all I do. I wanted this collection to inspire others to seek help and to take their mental health seriously. It is my plea to society to open up about their struggles with mental health and to begin to take it as seriously as a physical disability.
Therapy was embraced by a number of Influencers who walked in the collection including Gabi DeMartino, Naty Ashba, Gabby Fe, Janira Oberlin, and Christy-Anne Lopez. To order from the collection or a custom creation, send us an e-mail to schedule a consultation. LadyCat is size inclusive and designs for people of all shapes and sizes, we believe you should feel glamorous no matter your measurements.
LadyCat’s mission is to inspire, educate, and to save cats. All of our clothing is size-inclusive and aims to spread a message of hope. I strive to be an advocate in the mental health space by continuing this ongoing national conversation in an open and honest manner. A portion of the proceeds from my first collection “Therapy” is being donated to the Trevor Project.
The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people ages 13-24. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through its accredited free and confidential phone, instant message and text messaging crisis services. They are a leader and innovator in suicide prevention. They offer the largest social networking community for LGBTQ youth. As well as best practice suicide prevention educational trainings, resources for youth and adults, and advocacy initiatives. Learn more at TheTrevorProject.org.
Mental health is something that has profoundly impacted my life, and it was such a surreal experience to present “Therapy” during NYFW. Many people came up to me after the show to tell me about how mental health has impacted their lives. It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life in order to be able to share these stories with all of you. Partnering with the Trevor Foundation is so important to me as it allows me to be able to give back to the community. Without the resources provided by The Trevor Project, the world would be a darker place.
LadyCat also strives to share our passion for fashion by offering free crocheting patterns and commentary on the latest fashion trends through our blog. We believe that by sharing tutorials and educating others on how to create, it will help others to find their unique voice in the fashion community.
Lastly, LadyCat is a safe haven for cat lovers. During National Cat Day, we will be donating a portion of our RedBubble sales to BARC Shelter, which is a no-kill cat shelter.
